Bryony McCaughey
Bryony McCaughey is a multidisciplinary artist exploring the many layers of human experience through movement, photography, choreography and performance. Her works explore movement as language and the body as a site of energetic and relational exchange. Drawn to the interplay between individuality and community, performer and audience, Bryony finds inspiration in the people she encounters, in travel, and stillness. Movement research explores the body's capacity to hold memory and experience beneath the surface, to be accessed through sensation, only then transposed into movement. This awareness extends as a way of creating across all disciplines, guided by a desire to make art from a place of sensing, presence, and lived experience.
Classical training began at age 3 with Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre and performing as CCDT company dancer from 2013–2017, touring across Canada and in New York City. Bryony is a graduate of PADHA (Proficiency in Advanced Dance and Healing), an international professional program that instilled a reverence for cultural embodiment and a craving for movement research.
Her choreographic language fuses classical technique with street styles and martial arts, and is informed by ongoing research in improvisation, voice, clown, and Butoh. She has choreographed and performed internationally in North America, Mexico, Colombia, Vietnam and Europe and frequently collaborates across film and interdisciplinary media.
